Fairfield Picked First By MAAC Volleyball Coaches

Edison, NJ - Fairfield University, host of the 2012 MAAC Volleyball Championship, has been selected to finish first on the coaches' preseason poll.
 
Fairfield, the runner up in last season's MAAC Volleyball Championship, finished on top of the poll with 97 points. Three time defending champions Niagara University received 80 points to finish second. Manhattan College finished third with 73 points. Siena College was fourth with 69. Canisius College rounded out the top five with 63 points, followed by Marist College (60), Iona College (45), Loyola University Maryland (31), Rider University (21), and Saint Peter's University (11).

Siena's Taylor Akana was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year. Akana was named the 2011 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year last season as a sophomore after she led the MAAC with 4.46 kills per set and 345.5 total points in league play. She was also a member of the All-MAAC First Team in 2011 and the All-MAAC Second Team as a freshman in 2010.

Joining Akana on the Preseason All-MAAC Team is teammate Leslie Akeo, Canisius' Samantha Good, Fairfield's Rachel Romansky and Caitlin Stapleton, Iona's Catrina Warren, and Niagara's Kari Honomichl and Michelle James.
