MAAC Announces Men’s Tennis Major Award Winners
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the members of the 2016 Men’s Tennis All-MAAC teams, highlighted by Quinnipiac University’s Kei Ezaka, who was selected as the league’s Player of the Year while Monmouth University’s Nicola Pipoli and Quinnipiac University’s Freddie Zaretsky were named Co-Rookies of the Year.
Quinnipiac University Head Coach Chris Pappas was voted as the MAAC Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. Pappas is in his second year as the head coach of the men’s tennis program and led the Bobcats to an overall record of 15-7 and a 6-1 mark in conference play.
Ezaka, a junior from Ojai, California, finished the regular season with a career-high 19 doubles wins and 19 singles victories, giving him 38 overall wins. He ended the regular season with a record of 7-0 in conference singles play. Ezaka also earned a spot on the All-MAAC First Team at No. 1 Singles.
Pipoli, a freshman from Polignano a Mare, Italy, finished his first regular season as a Hawk with an overall record of 18-6, including a 5-0 singles record and 6-0 doubles record in league play. Pipoli also earned a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team at No. 3 Singles and All-MAAC First Team at No. 2 Doubles with his partner Przemyslaw Filipek.
Zaretsky, a freshman from Fair Lawn, New Jersey, finished his first collegiate regular season with an impressive 30 overall wins. Along with his teammate Luke Roser, Zaretsky posted a 3-0 conference record at the number two doubles position for the Hawks.
