Four MAAC Student-Athletes Named to United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s All-East Region Teams

EDISON, NJ – Four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s soccer student-athletes were named to United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I All-East Region Teams, as announced by the organization.

Monmouth University red-shirt sophomore forward Madie Gibson and sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Knaub were named to the All-East Region Second Team. Manhattan College senior forward Erica Modena and Siena College junior back Amanda Holtzman were named to the All-East Region Third Team.

Gibson was a 2017 Women’s Soccer All-MAAC First Team and All-Championship Team selection in her red-shirt sophomore campaign. The forward was tied for the league-lead in assists (nine), tied for second in game-winning goals (three), tied for third in points (23), and tied for sixth in goals (seven). She was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on October 9.
 
Knaub claimed the 2017 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year award and was named to the All-MAAC First Team. She posted a league-high 11 shutouts, which were the most in the MAAC since Hawks’ Ashley Lewis recorded 12 in 2013. The sophomore led the conference with a 0.88 goals against average, ranked fourth with a .796 save percentage, and fifth with 74 saves. She was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week three times in 2017 (September 4, September 11, October 2).
 
Modena became the first student-athlete from Manhattan to be named the MAAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year. The forward was also an All-MAAC First Team and All-Championship Team selection this past season. Modena ranked second in the MAAC in points (29), second in goals (11), and tied for sixth in assists (seven). She registered three multi-goal games, including a hat-trick against Canisius College on October 11.

Holtzman was named to the All-MAAC First Team this past season. The junior registered two assists in 19 games, all starts, for the Saints. Holtzman anchored Siena’s backline, which posted the third most shutouts (seven) in the MAAC in 2017.
