MAAC Announces 2017 Men's & Women's Tennis Major Award Winners

WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's & Women's Tennis Championships take place from Saturday, April 29- Sunday, April 30 at the Lake Mercer Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ.
The 2017 unanimous MAAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year is Javier Restrepo from Marist College. Restrepo was also a unanimous All-MAAC selection at #1 singles. At the #1 spot, the junior recorded a 12-1 overall record and was a perfect 4-0 in conference play. Restrepo, along with doubles partner, Gianlucca Massa, teamed up to go 8-2 overall at #2 doubles and a perfect 4-0 in MAAC play. The duo was named to the All-MAAC Second Team at #2 doubles.
The 2017 MAAC Women's Player of the Year is Sitilia Rencheli from Quinnipiac University. Rencheli, who also earned All-MAAC First Team honors at #1 singles was 5-1 at the position against MAAC foes. With her doubles partner, Kelsi Oliphant, the #2 doubles combo went a perfect 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the MAAC to earn unanimous All-MAAC First Team honors at #2 doubles.
Christopher Gladden of Marist College is the 2017 MAAC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year. In his first year of competition for the Red Foxes, the freshman went 8-4 overall and 3-0 in MAAC play, with a perfect 6-0 record at #4 singles. Gladden enters the 2017 MAAC Men's Tennis Championship on a four-match win streak and is 7-3 in his last ten singles matches.
Quinnipiac University's Layla Rodriguez is the 2017 MAAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year. The Bobcats rookie went 17-9 overall and 6-1 in conference matches. Rodriguez was named to the All-MAAC First team at #5 singles where she posted 6-4 match record. She also picked up at least one match victory competing at second, third and fourth singles. Along with Jennifer Lu, Rodriguez was named to the All-MAAC First Team at #3 doubles. The duo went 8-0 overall and 4-0 in MAAC play.
The 2017 MAAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year is Alex Kasarov from Monmouth University. In his first year as head coach of the Hawks, Monmouth posted a perfect 7-0 MAAC and an 11-11 overall record. The Hawks enjoyed playing at home this season, going 7-1 in West Long Branch.
The 2017 MAAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year is Paula Miller from Quinnipiac University. The Bobcats were 7-0 in MAAC play and were 12-8 overall. Miller's Bobcats all earned First Team honors in singles competition, sweeping #1 to #6 singles. Below are the All-MAAC Teams.
