Niagara (19-14) fell to Eastern Michigan (22-12), 83-65, in the first round of the 2018 CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) on Wednesday night. Tonight’s appearance in the CIT marked the first postseason game for the Purple Eagles since 2013, and the team’s first-ever appearance in the CIT.
 
Niagara Notes:
  • 2018 MAAC Co-Player of the Year, red-shirt senior guard Kahlil Dukes scored a team-high 16 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field. He dished out four assists and added three steals in 37 minutes of play.
  • Junior forward Marvin Prochet notched his league-leading ninth double-double of the season. The junior tallied 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Prochet’s 11-rebound performance marked the 11th time this season that the forward pulled down double-digit rebounds.
  • Junior forward Dominic Robb added 10 points, four rebounds, and two blocks in 20 minutes off the bench.
  • Senior guard Matt Scott returned to the floor tonight and posted seven points on 2-of-4 shooting and seven rebounds in 20 minutes of play off the bench.
  • Tonight’s meeting marked just the second time in history that Niagara faced Eastern Michigan (December 12, 1970). After tonight’s result the all-time season series is split (1-1).
Eastern Michigan Notes:
  • The Eagles advance in the CIT and will face a to-be-determined opponent, scheduled to take place between March 22-25, with the venue to be decided depending on their opponent.
  • Red-shirt junior forward Elijah Minnie scored a career-high 29 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range.
  • Junior center James Thompson IV tallied 20 points and pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds.

In its 10th season, the CIT was created to provide an opportunity to participate in the postseason for deserving programs not selected to play in the NCAA Tournament or the NIT. This season’s field of 20 teams was selected by a 14-member committee made of current Division I Athletic Directors and Conference Commissioners.
