No. 6 seed Rider (22-10) was defeated by No. 3 seed Oregon (23-12), 99-86, in the first round of the 2018 NIT on Tuesday night. The Broncs finish the 2017-18 campaign with 22 wins, which was one-win shy of tying the program record.
 
Rider Notes:
  • The Broncs had five players score in double figures, four of which scored 16 or more points.  
  • Red-shirt freshman guard/forward Dimencio Vaughn posted a game-high 25 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field. He recorded six rebounds (five offensive), blocked three shots, and notched a pair of steals in 39 minutes of play. The 25-point performance marked Vaughn’s eighth game this season with 20 or more points. It was the fourth time this season that he scored at least 25 points.
  • Sophomore center Tyere Marshall recorded 18 points and a team-high eight rebounds in 24 minutes of action.
  • Red-shirt freshman guard Jordan Allen tallied 17 points, three rebounds, and two assists. The guard shot 7-of-14 from the floor.
  • Red-shirt freshman forward Frederick Scott added 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, five rebounds, and two assists in 29 minutes of play off the bench.
  • Sophomore guard Stevie Jordan rounded out the Broncs in double-digits with 10 points and a team-best six assists.
  • Rider outscored Oregon in the paint, 50-34, and off turnovers, 26-17.
  • The Broncs are now 1-10 all-time in postseason tournaments and 0-2 in the NIT.
Oregon Notes:
  • The Ducks advance to the 2018 NIT second round, where they will meet the winner of No. 2 seed Marquette and No. 7 seed Harvard.
  • Sophomore guard Payton Pritchard and freshman guard Victor Bailey Jr. totaled 46 points (23 points each) en route to the victory.
  • The Ducks outscored the Broncs, 63-42, in the second half, and 38-21 in the fourth quarter alone.
About the 2018 NIT:
The first three rounds of the NIT are hosted at the campus site of one of the participating teams. For each game, the higher-seeded team will have the first option to host unless logistical circumstances preclude such an opportunity. First Round games will be played March 13 and 14, Second Round games are scheduled for March 15-19 and Quarterfinal Round games will be played March 20 and 21. The four quarterfinal winners square off Tuesday, March 27 with the Championship scheduled for Thursday, March 29.
