2018 MAAC Water Polo Championship Field is Set

EDISON, NJ – The 2018 MAAC Water Polo Championship field is set as the regular season concluded on Sunday. The top four teams from the regular season advance to the championship, which takes place April 28-29, in McCann Natatorium on the campus of Marist College. Marist will serve as the championship host for the 16th year in a row.

Wagner College (22-6, 14-0 MAAC) clinched its third consecutive MAAC Water Polo Regular Season title, as well as the top seed in upcoming championship with a win over Marist on Sunday morning. Since April 12, 2015, the Seahawks are 42-0 against conference foes. Wagner finished its conference portion of the schedule a perfect 14-0, which marked the third-straight season that the Seahawks have posted a perfect record in MAAC play. They have claimed four-straight MAAC Championships and seven overall.
 
No. 1 Wagner takes on No. 4 Virginia Military Institute (20-10, 8-6 MAAC) in the first semifinal matchup of the championship on Saturday, April 28, at noon on ESPN3. VMI advanced to the MAAC Water Polo Championship for the second year in a row. Last season marked the first time in program history that the Keydets earned a berth in the championship field.
 
The Seahawks swept the regular season series against the Keydets and outscored them 21-15 over the course of the two-game span.
 
No. 2 Marist College (19-16, 12-2 MAAC) faces No. 3 Iona College (12-22, 9-5 MAAC) in the second semifinal contest on Saturday, April 28 at 2 p.m. on ESPN3. The Red Foxes took both games against the Gaels in the regular season and outscored them 17-10. Marist returns to the MAAC Water Polo Championship for the 15th year in a row, while Iona is making its 16th-straight trip.
 
The consolation game and championship game of the championship will be played the following day on Sunday, April 29, at noon and 2 p.m. respectively. Both contests will air on ESPN3.
