MAAC Announces 2018 Women's Lacrosse All-MAAC Teams & Major Awards

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2018 Women’s Lacrosse All-MAAC Teams and Major Award winners, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

The 2018 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year is Jourdan Romer of Canisius College. The junior led the MAAC in points (78), points per game (4.33), and tied for the league lead with four game-winning goals this season. Roemer was also inside the top 10 of the league in both goals and assists. 40 of Roemer’s 78 points came against league foes.


Keira Kelly from Quinnipiac University is the 2018 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Kelly led the league in ground balls (70), ground balls per game (4.38), caused turnovers (60), and caused turnovers per game (3.75). The senior also led Division I caused turnovers per game and was third ground balls per game. Kelly becomes the first Bobcat to claim a major award as a member of the MAAC.

The 2018 MAAC Midfielder of the Year is Jen Reininger from Canisius College. Reninger makes it seven straight seasons that Canisius has won Midfielder of the Year. The senior was fourth in the league in goals with 52 and tied for eighth in points per game at 3.39. Reininger was also third in the MAAC in ground balls (59) and fourth in draw controls with 103.


Delaney Galvin of Marist is the 2018 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Galvin becomes the second Red Fox to garner the honor. The first-year Fox paced the MAAC in save percentage at .542 and saves per game (12.47). Galvin was a three-time Defensive Player of the Week and once a Rookie of the Week selection.

The 2018 MAAC Rookie of the Year is Kerry Gerety of Siena. Gerety makes it back-to-back seasons that Siena has the Rookie of the Year. The first-year Saint led the team and all MAAC freshman with 67 draw controls and was second on Siena with 35 points. Gerety shared the team lead with 12 assists on the season and was third in ground balls for the Saints.


The 2018 BSN Sports MAAC Coach of the Year is Marist head coach Jessica Wilkinson. It is the third time that Wilkinson has collected MAAC Coach of the Year Honors—2013, 2014. The eighth-year head coach guided the Red Foxes to a share of the MAAC Regular Season Title in 2018 and number one seed in the MAAC Championship.
 
The First Team All-MAAC attack is comprised of Jourdan Roemer of Canisius, Brenna Connolly from Fairfield University, Morgan Jaycox of Marist, and Rachel MacCheyne from Niagara University. In the midfield on the first team is Canisius’s Jen Reininger, Caroline Corbliss of Monmouth University, and Alexis Deaken from Siena. The first team defense features Megan Beach from Fairfield, Gabriella Di Domizio from Iona College, Niagara’s Alexandra Higgins, and Quinnipiac’s Kelly. The goalkeeper on the first team is Galvin.

Higgins, MacCheyne, Reninger, and Roemer were unanimous selections at their respective positions.
 
Pamela Giordano of Iona, Marist’s tandem of Samantha Mehalick and Hailey Wagner, Monmouth’s Nicole Ceraso, and Caroline Crump from Niagara were named to the All-MAAC Second Team Attack. The second team midfield consists of Fairfield’s Kathleen Hulsemann, Iona’s Jenna Tolzmann, and Niagara’s Alexis Morales. Erin Mammele of Fairfield, Manhttan’s Emma Kaishian, Marist’s Logan Boyle and Monmouth’s Kate Ryan are the second team defenders with Rebecca VanLaeken from Canisius the goalkeeper on the Second Team All-MAAC.
 
The All-Rookie saw three players get unanimously chosen—Marist’s pair of Galvin and Camille Renaud and Siena’s Gerety. Joining the three were Marissa Malvaso of Canisius, Fairfield’s Paulina DiFatta, Kelly Horning, Maggie Reynolds, and Jillian Winwood. Iona’s Erin O’Donnell, Marist’s Kelly George, Niagara’s Meghan Howe, and Quinnipiac’s duo of Avery Drouin and Maddy Lamagna were named to the team as well.  
 
The semifinals and championship of the 2018 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship take on Thursday and Saturday at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Thursday’s semifinal matchups are No. 3 Fairfield vs. No. 2 seed Monmouth at 3 p.m. and No. 4 Canisius vs. No. 1 Marist at 7 p.m. The Championship game will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. All games can be watched on MAAC.TV.
