2022 Men’s Tennis Major Awards and All-MAAC Teams Announced

EDISON, NJ (Apr. 22, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2022 Men’s Tennis Major Award winners and All-MAAC Teams, voted on by the league’s seven head coaches.
 
Earning his second straight men’s top honor, Fairfield’s Kaya Gore was named unanimous 2022 MAAC Player of the Year. He went 4-1 in singles conference action and 18-4 overall at #1 singles on the season. Gore added a 4-1 MAAC tally at #2 doubles and went 11-4 overall in doubles. Hailing from Izmir, Turkey, he was unanimously voted to the All-MAAC First Team at the No. 1 spot and earned first team accolades at the No. 2 doubles spot. Gore was a two-time MAAC Player of the Week in 2022 additionally.
 
Trevor Masi of Niagara was picked as the 2022 MAAC Rookie of the Year. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native was 12-4 overall in dual matches and 3-3 in conference action in singles play. Masi compiled a 4-2 MAAC record in doubles and was 11-6 overall in doubles.
 
Monmouth’s Chris Leicht won his third consecutive MAAC Coach of Year award after also taking home the award in both 2019 and 2021. Leicht led Monmouth to its seventh consecutive MAAC Men’s Regular Season crown, concluding 2022 with a perfect 6-0 conference record and tying the program record with 18 overall victories. His Hawks won all but one league match by a 7-0 score this season and the squad extended their MAAC regular season winning streak to 33 consecutive matches dating back to the 2016 campaign. Leicht has also guided Monmouth to a pair of MAAC Tournament titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2019 and 2021.

The 2022 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships presented by VisitNJ will take place on April 23-24 at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ. This will be the 10th consecutive championship held at Mercer County Park Tennis Center dating back to the 2012 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships.
