A two-sport standout at Monmouth, Ellen Brennan Schum '88 competed in both basketball and cross country during her career. The 1988 Monmouth Valedictorian, Brennan Schum was also honored as the 1988 Monmouth Athlete of the Year. A four-year starter and three-time team captain in basketball, Brennan Schum was a two-time Second-Team All-Northeast Conference player and was named to the 1987 NEC All-Tournament Team.

In 1988, Brennan Schum earned Second-Team Academic All-American status and was named the team MVP. Part of teams that went undefeated in ECAC Metro Conference play in 1986-87 and 1987-88, Brennan Schum ranks 21st all-time in scoring (926), first in career assists (530) and 11th in games played (114). She dished the third most assists in a single-season in 1985-86 with 156, and also has the fourth-most assists in a single season with 149. Her 73.1 career free throw percentage ranks seventh in program history.
