Young played his final two seasons at Niagara University after a two-year stint at Mitchell College, a junior college in New London, Connecticut, where he led the NJCAA Division II in scoring at 29.6 points per game while earning NJCAA Division II All-American honors as a sophomore. In his first season at Niagara, he started all 27 games, averaging 15.7 points per game, and earned All-MAAC Third Team honors. He exploded offensively as a senior while helping Niagara to a tie for the 1998-99 MAAC regular-season championship. He led the nation in scoring at 25.1 points per game, including a career-high 44 points in an 86-82 win over Siena, which was then the highest single-game scoring mark since Calvin Murphy. Young was named MAAC Player of the Year to become the first Purple Eagle to win the award. He was also named to the All-MAAC First Team and to the MAAC All-Tournament Team. A member of the 1,000-Point Club, Young’s career scoring average of 25.4 points per game ranks fifth in program history. After college, Young had an extensive professional basketball career playing in some of the best leagues in the world including Greece, France and Italy.
