MARIST'S JORDAN NAMED MEN'S BASKETBALL PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR

New York, NY - Marist College senior guard Jared Jordan has been selected as the 2006-07 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year, as chosen by the MAAC's 10 head coaches.

Jordan is joined on the first team by Manhattan College junior forward/center Arturo Dubois, Marist senior guard/forward Will Whittington, Niagara University junior guard/forward Charron Fisher and Rider University guard forward Jason Thompson.

Jordan, a member of the All-MAAC First Team last season, led the nation in assists during his junior campaign, averaging 8.5 per game for the Red Foxes. He also averaged a team-high 16.1 points and 4.8 rebounds a night for the Red Foxes.

Dubois, a Second Team All-MAAC choice last season, averaged 15.0 points per game last season while pulling down 8.5 boards a night for the Jaspers. He also connected on 56 percent of his shots from the field during the 2005-06 season.

Whittington, a 2005-06 Third Team All-MAAC selection, finished in the top 10 nationally in made three-pointers per game for the second consecutive season, netting 3.6 per contest (eighth place). He registered 15.4 points and 2.7 caroms an outing for the Red Foxes.

Fisher averaged a team-best 18.3 points over 19 games last season for the Purple Eagles. Additionally, he finished second on the team in rebounds with 7.9 boards a night during his sophomore campaign.

Thompson, a member of the 2005-06 All-MAAC Second Team, ranked in the top 10 in several MAAC categories last season, including second in blocks (1.78), fourth in rebounding (8.4), sixth in field goal percentage (.546) and seventh in scoring (16.6).
