Manhattan College Wins 2003 MAAC Volleyball Championship Title

Loudonville, N.Y. -- Manhattan College claimed its second straight championship title with a 3-0 win over Saint Peter's College in the 2003 MAAC Volleyball Championship at the Alumni Recreation Center on the campus of Siena College.

Luka Van Cauteren, the tournament's most valuable player, registered a match-high 15 kills, 21 assists and 11 digs for Manhattan, while Lori Bambauer added 21 assists. Krista Thorsen and Ashley Davis recorded 15 digs apiece, and Jaime Pavel posted 14 digs in the win. Sasha Pshenychka led Saint Peter's with her 11 kills, and Tzvetomila Dotcheva tallied 10 kills. Ludmila Kechina posted 29 assists for the Peahens.

Van Cauteren is joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammate Maggie Pfeifer, Saint Peter's Kechina and Serra Soylu, Fairfield's Casey Machon and Iona's Crystal Vasquez.

Manhattan earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament. First round play will begin December 4 at campus sites.
