MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Matt Stedman Headlines 2005 All-MAAC Men's Soccer Team

Niagara Mentor Dermot McGrane Named Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year

EDISON, NJ - Niagara University junior forward Matt Stedman has been selected as the 2005 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year by the league's head coaches and headlines this season's All-MAAC First Team.

Stedman earned this award leading the MAAC in scoring during the regular season. He posted 13 goals and 10 assists for 36 points during the season for the Purple Eagles.

Joining Stedman with First Team All-MAAC honors is Marist College's Ben Castor, the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Castor, a senior defender for the Red Foxes, earned this honor for the second consecutive year after helping his squad to an overall record of 8-8-1 and a 6-3 mark in the MAAC.

Fairfield University's Kerr McLeod took the MAAC Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman midfielder recorded one goal and three assists this season for the Stags.

Also earning first team selections are Tomislav Rogic and Keith Detelj from Marist. Fairfield's Sam Bailey, Billy Androutsos, and Andrew Frankel, Iona College's Nicholas Smaldone, Loyola College's Gabe Ortega and Rade Kokovic, and Saint Peter's College's Marco Orias and Juan Gaviria round out the selections on the first team.

The second team All-MAAC consists of five student-athletes from Fairfield: McLeod, Ed Meyer, Tom Skara, Mike Troy and Aldo Hope. They are joined by Paul Racines from Iona, Danny Wheelan from Loyola, Javier Escobedo from Manhattan, Anthony Graci from Marist, Mark Spooner from Niagara, Dan Riverso from Rider University and Chris DeAbreu from Saint Peter's.

Headlining the All-Rookie Team with McLeod are Hope, Tom Clements, Mike Lentine and Jesse Sutherland from Fairfield, Phil Brierley and Josh Taylor from Loyola, Chris Nacca from Marist, Billy Gustafson and Eric Brodfuehrer from Niagara, Mike Juska from Rider, DeAbreu from Saint Peter's and Michael DeSimone from Siena College.

Niagara head coach Dermot McGrane was named the 2005 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year. He has led the Purple Eagles to an overall record of 9-8-1, including a 5-4 mark in the MAAC, and the school's first-ever appearance in the MAAC Men's Soccer Championship.
