Iona College Wins Men's & Women's Cross Country Championships

Bronx, NY ? The No. 3 ranked Iona College men’s cross country team claimed their 16th consecutive MAAC Cross Country Championship, while No. 19 ranked Iona College women’s cross country team took their second consecutive women’s championship today at Van Cortlandt Park.

Iona finished the men’s 8K race with a total of 17 points after six of their runners placed in the top ten. Marist College had three runners in the top ten to help the Red Foxes finish second with 52 points. Manhattan College claimed third place with 96 points.

On the women’s side, seven Gaels placed in the top ten to help Iona win with 17 points. Marist College finished in second place with 87 points, followed by Manhattan College, who finished in third place with 95 points.

Iona’s Abraham Ng’etich was the men’s most outstanding runner as he finished the 8K race in first place with a time of 25:12.0. In the women’s 6K race, Iona’s Salome Kosgei finished in first place with a time of 21:50.8 to claim women’s most outstanding runner honors. Iona College’s Mick Byrne claimed men’s & women’s cross country coach of the year honors.
