Iona College Repeats Double at 2007 MAAC Cross Country Championships

Edison, NJ ? The Iona College Gaels men’s and women’s cross country teams ran to victories at the 2007 MAAC Cross Country Championships. The men’s team, currently ranked fourth in the nation, has now won 17 consecutive MAAC Championships, while the women’s side has won three in a row.
The men placed their first five runners in the top seven for a low score of 17. The Marist Red Foxes had two runners place in the top 10 for a second place finish with 61 points. The Rider Broncs finished third with 103.
The Iona women placed four runners in the top 10 to win the championship with 24 points. The Manhattan Jaspers totaled 75 points for second place. The Loyola Greyhounds were third with 95 points.
Iona’s Mohamed Khadraoui was the men’s individual champion, finishing the 8k course in a time of 25:10.9. Iona’s McKayla Plank won the women’s individual title with a time of 21:34.6 on the 6k course.
The 2007 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year honors went to Iona’s Mick Byrne.
