Fairfield Advances to Championship Match With 3-1 Win Over Loyola

Fairfield, CT ? Fairfield University defeated Loyola College 3-1 in the first semifinal at the 2007 MAAC Volleyball Championship in Fairfield, CT. The Stags will face the winner of the second semifinal between Siena College and Iona College.

Senior Kelly Oliver led the way for Fairfield with 13 kills and 19 digs. Sophomore Katie Mann had 18 kills on .424 hitting and added four total blocks. Seniors Lindsey Lee and Jazmin Pa’akaula had 16 digs apiece and sophomore Barbie Thistle had 14 digs and 13.25 assists per game.

Fairfield took a 2-0 lead with wins of 30-19 in game one and 30-22 in game two. Loyola battled back in the third game with a 30-23 victory fueled by a team attack percentage of .306. The Stags responded in the fourth game with a 30-20 victory to win the match and book their place in the Championship Game.

The MAAC Volleyball Championship Game is on Monday night at 7 p.m. and will be shown live on ESPNU.
