Siena Outlasts Fairfield for Third Consecutive MAAC Volleyball Championship

Fairfield, CT ? Siena College defeated Fairfield University 3-2 to win their third consecutive MAAC Volleyball Championship and seventh in the school’s history. Siena is now 7-0 all-time in MAAC Championship matches.

Fairfield had all the momentum in the first game and used it to claim a 30-20 win and 1-0 advantage in the match. Siena tied the match at one in the second game with a 30-26 victory. Fairfield responded in the third game with a 30-27 win to take a 2-1 lead and control of the match. Siena won the fourth game 30-26 behind a .378 team attack percentage.

 In the fifth and deciding game, Siena jumped out to a 4-0 lead and then built the advantage to 8-3. Fairfield rallied to cut the deficit to 11-10. Each team scored two straight points to make it 13-12, but the Saints attack was too much in the end and they prevailed 15-10.

Siena’s Nadiege Honore was named the 2007 MAAC Volleyball Championship Most Valuable Player. Joining Honore on the All-Tournament Team were teammates Burgandy McCurty and Kelly Hummel, Fairfield’s Katie Mann and Barbie Thistle, Iona’s Kristin Allain, and Loyola’s Karlee Woodward.

As the MAAC Champion, Siena earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will air live on ESPNU on Sunday, November 25th at 8 p.m. EST.
