Loyola Defeats Fairfield, 2-0, in MAAC Women's Soccer Semifinal

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. ? Loyola College advanced to its 14th title game in school history with a 2-0 win over Fairfield University in the first semifinal game of the 2007 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship at Tenney Stadium on the campus of Marist College.

 

After a scoreless first half, the Greyhounds maintained possession of the ball to open the second stanza and capitalized on it at the 61:35 mark, as Colleen Kinelay scored her fourth goal of the season off a header, aided by Christina Gomez.  Gomez then scored her own goal, her fourth of the year, working past a defender after receiving a pass from Brynn McGrath at the 77:38 mark. 

 

Brittany Henderson, the 2007 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, recorded her seventh shutout of the season, posting four saves for Loyola.  Fairfield’s Brett Maron recorded three saves in her final game for Fairfield.  Loyola is now 9-5-5 overall, while Fairfield closed out its season at 11-7-3.

 

Loyola will play the winner of the Marist College/Niagara University second semifinal game this evening.  The winner of the 2007 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship will earn an automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship.
