Marist Men, Women Lead After Day Two of the 2007 Swimming & Diving Championships

Baltimore, Md ? After day two the Marist men’s & women’s teams have grabbed hold of the lead going into the final day of the 2007 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

Marist’s men’s team finished day two with 529 points, followed by second place Rider with 466.5 points. Loyola earned a third place finish behind 402.5 points, followed by Iona (321), Niagara (242), Saint Peter’s (199), Fairfield (177) and Canisius (151).

The women of Marist earned 586 points through 30 events scored heading into the third and final day of the championship. Rider placed second with 487 points, followed by Loyola’s 430 points. Iona earned 250 points, followed by Fairfield & Niagara (229), Siena (131), Canisius (113), Manhattan (104) and Saint Peter’s (63).

On day two of the championship several MAAC records fell. Rider’s Kelly Tomasula broke the MAAC record in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 57.37 in the preliminaries. Marist’s Jamie Falco owned the previous record of 58:55 set last season. Marist’s Lauren Malski scored two conference records on day two in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. In the preliminaries, Malski earned a time of 1:03.58. Malski would later shave a few ticks off her previous time by finishing the finals with a time of 1:03.55. Malski owned the previous record of 1:03.70, set at last season’s meet.

In 200 Yard Freestyle, Falco earned her second individual record of the championship with a 1:52.52 finish. Rider’s Priscilla Modrov earned a time of 1:53.69 to claim the record at last season’s championship. Marist’s Falco, Malski, Lyndsay Martin and Kim Koehler would later team up to claim the MAAC record in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:45.86. Marist’s owned the previous record of 1:46.56 from the 2006 championship. Rider’s Brandon Modrov would also claim a MAAC record in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 56.29 to defeat the previous mark of 56.35 set by Loyola’s Jamie Barone in 2002.

The championships final day is tomorrow beginning at 10:00 a.m. from Loyola’s College.
