JARED JORDAN OF MARIST NAMED ALL-MET PLAYER OF THE YEAR

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. --- Jared Jordan of Marist was named winner of the 74th Haggerty Award as the 2006-07 All-Met Division I men’s college basketball player of the year, presented by the National Invitation Tournament and the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
Jordan is just the second Red Fox to win the Haggerty Award. He follows Izett Buchanan, a co-winner in 1994.
Matt Brady of Marist won the Peter A. Carlesimo coach of the year award.
Eugene Harvey of Seton Hall was named rookie of the year.
Joining Jordan on the All-Met first team: Loren Stokes and Antoine Agudio, Hofstra; Lamont Hamilton, St. John’s; Harvey; Jason Thompson, Rider.
Named to the second team: Brian Laing, Seton Hall; Bryant Dunston and Marcus Stout, Fordham; Will Whittington, Marist; Andre Harris, FDU; Anthony Mason Jr., St. Johns; John Baumann, Columbia.
Named to the third team: Jarell Brown, Army; J.R. Inman, Rutgers; Arturo Dubois and Devon Austin, Manhattan; Mike Van Schaick, Fairfield; Robert Hines, St. Francis.
A senior guard from Hartford, Conn., and the MAAC player of the year, Jordan led the nation in assists for the second straight season, totaling 286 for an 8.7 apg average. He also had 17.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg and a team-leading 45 steals. He finished as the all-time school assists leader with 813.
In his third season at the helm, Brady guided the Red Foxes to a 25-9 record, a program record for victories, and the Metro Atlantic regular season title (14-4). Marist advanced to the second round of the NIT.
