Manhattan Claimed Fourth Consecutive Men's Tennis Title

For the fourth straight year, the Manhattan College Jaspers claimed the MAAC Men’s Tennis Championship title and advance to the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship with their 4-1 victory over Marist College today at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. Manhattan’s Bogdan Borta earned Most Valuable Player honors for the second consecutive year.
The Red Foxes took an early 1-0 advantage after earning the doubles point with wins at all three doubles matches. In singles play, the Jaspers claimed victories at the first, third, fourth and fifth singles matches to clinch a 4-1 decision over the Red Foxes.
Manhattan’s Borta earned MVP honors for the second straight season. In this year’s tournament he went 2-1 in doubles play. At No. 1 singles, Borta finished the tournament 2-0 and was leading in the second set against Fairfield before the match was called.
The Jaspers will learn who they will face in the NCAA’s on Tuesday, May 1 at 2:30 p.m., selection announcements are made on ESPNEWS.
In consolation play, Niagara earned a 4-2 victory over Fairfield to take a third place finish at the championship, while Saint Peter’s and Siena finished the championship tied in fifth place. In the seventh place match, Loyola defeated Rider 5-1.
