Canisius College Wins 2007 MAAC Softball Championship

Stratford, Conn. -- Canisius College (27-19) earned the league's automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Division I Softball Championship with a 2-0 victory over Marist College (20-30), in the title game of the 2007 MAAC Softball Championship at DeLuca Field.

Canisius made its mark on the scoreboard first with one run in the top of the third inning as Jenny Maheu singled to center field to plate Brittany Bonetto.

The Golden Griffins then scored their insurance run in the fifth, with Maheu crossing home plate on a sacrifice fly to center field by Katie Miranto.

Canisius' Courtney Piar, the championship's Most Outstanding Player, improved to 11-5 with the win. Marist's Megan Rigos finished the year at 12-13 on the mound.
