Rider Wins 2007 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship

Lawrenceville, N.J. - The women of Rider University won the 2007 MAAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship today in Lawrencville, N.J. with a team score of 243. Rider’s Jazmine Fenlator and Iona’s McKayla Plank were selected Most Outstanding Performers, while Loyola’s Brett Harvey earned Coach of the Year honors.
The Broncs beat second place Manhattan’s 228 points by 15. Marist finished in third place with 102, followed by Loyola (94), Iona (80) and Saint Peter’s (14).
Fenlater, who also earned Most Outstanding Performer honors at the indoor meet in February, earned gold medal finishes in the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw. Her 48.62 meter toss in the discus broke the previous record of 48.54 set by Fenlator in the 2005 meet.
Plank won the 1500m run with a time of 4:32.29 to establish a new meet record in the event. The previous record of 4:35.02 was set in 2004 by Threse Forsberg. She also earned a first place finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:16.45.
Five more student-athletes set new meet marks with their performances today. In the 100m dash, Manhattan’s Diane Torsell earned a time of 11.94 to top the previous mark of 12.20 set by Stefani Allen in 2001. Iona’s Tracey Williams finished second in the 1500 behind her teammate, Plank, but her time of 4:32.38 was still better than the previous mark. Less than 24 hours after setting a new meet record in the 10000m run, Iona’s Salome Kosgei, earned a time of 16:40.68 in the 5000m run. She beat the previous record of 16:59.40 that was set by Loyola’s Andrea Rovegno in 2005.
Rider’s Kelly Kajunski’s 1.75 meters in the high jump, was just better than Cheryl Dreshel’s 1.74 mark set in 2001. Manhattan’s Tiina Magi beat her previous triple jump record of 11.98 set in 2005 with today’s distance of 12.21m.
