Lawrenceville, N.J. ? Manhattan College earned their 10th consecutive MAAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship title today in Lawrenceville, N.J. Manhattan’s Milan Jotanovic & Rider University’s David Payne claimed Most Outstanding Performer honors, while Dan Mecca was selected Coach of the Year.
The Jaspers cruised through the championship, finishing with a team score of 232. Rider University earned a second place finish with a score of 145, followed by Iona (101), Saint Peter’s (59) and Marist College (58).
Milan was selected Most Outstanding Performer for field events after he earned gold medals in the discus throw and had a record breaking performance in the shot put. His 19.60 meter toss in the shot put beat the previous meet record of 19.30, set by Milan at last season’s championship.
Payne had a great day, as he earned victories and set new meet records in both the 100m and 200m dash. His time in the 100m was 10.46, while his 200m time was 21.10 to beat the previous record of 21.80 set in 2001 by Ed Potter.
In addition to the records set by Payne and Milan, there were two more student-athletes that broke records. Manhattan’s Dexter Jules set a new meet record in the triple jump, with his distance of 14.81m. The previous record was 14.78, set in 1998 by Joe Sciuto. Rider’s Desmond Hamilton earned times of 10.55 and 21.42 in the 100m and 200m dashes. Both of Hamilton’s times were better than the previous records of 10.59 in the 100m and 21.80 in the 200m. However, Hamilton’s teammate, Payne, finished ahead of him and now owns the records in the 200m and 100m dashes.
