Loyola Defeats Niagara, 3-0, in MAAC Men's Soccer Semifinal

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. ? Top-seeded Loyola College defeated fourth-seeded Niagara University, 3-0, in the first semifinal game of the 2008 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship at Tenney Stadium on the campus of Marist College.  

 

The Greyhounds first got on the scoreboard at the 61:13 mark as sophomore defender Glenn Leitch tapped in his sixth goal of the season after sophomore forward Phil Bannister attempted a header.  Bannister then upped the score again with his 12th goal of the season at the 67 minute mark, sending a loose ball in the left corner of the net.  Sophomore midfielder Daniel Ankrah closed out the Greyhounds’ scoring effort with his fifth goal of the season with just over four minutes remaining in the contest.

 

Milos Kocic recorded his 11th shutout of the season, posting four saves for Loyola.  Niagara’s John Fiutowski recorded four saves for the Purple Eagles.  Loyola is now 18-0-1 overall, while Niagara closed out its season at 11-6-3.

 

Loyola will play the winner of the Fairfield University/Siena College second semifinal game this evening.  The winner of the 2008 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship will earn an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.
