Fairfield University Wins 2008 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. ? Fairfield University earned its third MAAC title with a 1-0 victory over Loyola College in the title game of the 2008 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship at Tenney Stadium on the campus of Marist College.
Freshman forward Jack Burridge put the third-seeded Stags on the scoreboard as he headed in his second goal of the championship and the fifth goal of the season into the left side of the net, off a cross pass by sophomore forward Todd Rutledge, at the 25:03 mark.
Fairfield goalkeeper Justin Burse recorded four saves in his eighth shutout for the Stags. Loyola’s Milos Kocic posted three saves between the pipes for the top-seeded Greyhounds.
Christian Uy was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship, joining teammates Tom Clements, Mike Lentine and Matthew Uy on the All-Tournament Team. Loyola was represented by Phil Bannister, Mike Deasel and Tennant McVea on the squad. Niagara’s Eric Brodfuehrer and Joe Skinner as well as Siena College’s Sebastien Anzevui and Ross Cardinelli rounded out the members of the All-Tournament Team.
Fairfield has earned the MAAC’s automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship. The bracket announcement for the 50th Annual NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship will take place on Monday, November 17 between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m., live on ESPNews. The first round games will begin on Friday, November 21.
