Siena Tops Canisius to Advance to Fourth Straight Title Match

Loudonville, NY ? Host Siena College defeated Canisius College, 3-1, in the first semifinal of the 2008 MAAC Volleyball Championship in Loudonville, New York. The Saints, who have won three straight MAAC titles, advance to the championship match where they will meet the winner of the second semifinal between Fairfield University and Iona College.
Siena junior Burgandy McCurty, a two-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, led the way with 29 kills and 13 digs. Senior April London had 58 assists and added 12 digs.
Siena jumped out to a 2-0 lead, winning each of the first two sets 25-18. Canisius fought back in the third set, winning a back and forth affair 28-26. The set featured ten ties and three lead changes. Siena was able to hold off the Golden Griffins in the fourth and deciding set, 25-21.
The 2008 MAAC Championship Match will be played on Monday, November 24 at 7:00 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPNU.
