MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Ahna Johnson Headlines 2008 All-MAAC Women's Soccer Team

Albany, N.Y. ? Fairfield University senior midfielder Ahna Johnson has been named the 2008 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches and headlines this season’s All-MAAC First Team.
Johnson earned this award after ranking third on the MAAC scoring list during the regular season. She has recorded 12 goals and four assists for 28 points this season for the Stags.
Joining Johnson with First Team All-MAAC honors is Loyola College’s Sarra Moller, the 2008 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Moller, a senior defender for the Greyhounds, anchored Loyola’s defensive unit that posted six shutouts en route to earning the MAAC regular season title and the top seed in the 2008 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship.
Siena College’s Ashleigh Barone earned the 2008 MAAC Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman forward led the conference in scoring during the regular season with 15 goals and five assists for 35 points.
Barone also earned a spot on the All-MAAC First Team, along with Fairfield’s Nicole Cavallaro, Loyola’s Theresa Ferraina and Christina Gomez, and Niagara’s Stephanie Gartley at the forward position. Joining Johnson in the midfield are Canisius College’s Kelly Reinwald, Loyola’s Lea Day and Manhattan College’s Courtney McMahon. Canisius’ Nikki Gabrielli, Fairfield’s Robyn Decker and Moller represent the backs, and Loyola’s goalkeeper Brittany Henderson rounds out the All-MAAC First Team.
The All-MAAC Second Team includes Alyssa Decker from Fairfield, Heather Cooke from Loyola, Jill Beauchamp and Brittany Duhamel from Manhattan, Alyssa Pollock from Niagara University and Shana Brady from Siena at back. The midfielders consist of Kasey Makowski from Canisius, Kelly Farrell from Loyola, Chiara Greco from Niagara and Chelsea Maguire from Siena. At forward are Sylvia Kowalski from Canisius, Spenser Allaway and Jasmin Corniel from Fairfield, Caroline Morse from Manhattan and Maria DeMatteo from Siena. Fairfield’s Kelly Boudreau serves as goalkeeper on the Second Team.
Headlining the All-Rookie team are Decker from Fairfield, Devon Lutz from Manhattan, Jennifer Orlando from Marist College, Jennifer Kimoto from Niagara and Maren Serafine from Siena at back. The midfielders include Reinwald from Canisius, Kathryn Hannis from Marist, and Lindsay Tegas from Siena. Allaway, Corniel and Barone are the forwards, while Boudreau and Siena’s Laura Ettinger share the goalkeeper duties.
Canisius head coach Jim Wendling was named the 2008 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year. In his first season at the helm of the Golden Griffins, he has led the Griffs to an overall record of 11-4-3, including a 6-3 mark in the MAAC, en route to earning the fourth seed in the 2008 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship.
