Rider Falls to Old Dominion, 68-65, in the College Basketbal lnvitational

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Frank Hassell scored 14 points and Old Dominion held off Rider, 68-65, Tuesday night in the opening round of the inaugural College Basketball Invitational.
The Monarchs (18-15) advanced to a quarterfinal game against Virginia, a 66-64 winner over Richmond in another first-round game.
Rider (23-11) whittled away at Old Dominion's lead, pulling to 66-63 on a 3-pointer by Harris Mansell with 43 seconds to play, but could get no closer.
Ryan Thompson led Rider with 24 points, and his brother Jason had 15 points and 17 rebounds. The Thompson brothers scored all 23 of Rider's points through a 12 1/2-minute span of the second half.
Brandon Johnson had 10 points and was the only other player in double figures for Old Dominion.
