MAAC Announces 2007-08 All-MAAC Men's Basketball Teams

EDISON, N.J. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announces the 2007-2008 All-MAAC Men's Basketball Teams, selected by the MAAC’s head coaches.


The first team is made up of Loyola's Gerald Brown, Niagara's Charron Fisher, Rider’s Jason Thompson and Siena's Kenny Hasbrouck and Edwin Ubiles. Brown, Fisher and Thompson are repeat selections from last season's First Team. These five players are now eligible to be named the 2007-2008 Pepsi MAAC Player of the Year, also selected by the head coaches of the league. The award winner will be announced on Thursday, March 6 at a 5:00 p.m. awards reception at the Times Union Center, the site of the 2008 Citizens Bank MAAC Basketball Championships.


Brown, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound senior guard from Baltimore, Md., makes his second appearance on the All-MAAC First Team. He is ranked third on the MAAC's scoring list, netting 18.8 points a night for the Greyhounds. Brown is also fourth in the league in free throw percentage, connecting on 79.1 attempts from the charity stripe, and sixth in steals with 1.65 takeaways an outing. He netted double-digit points in 27 games and one double-double this season.


Fisher, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound senior guard/forward from Pennsauken, N.J., is also a repeat selection to this squad and currently leads the nation in scoring with 27.8 points an outing for the Purple Eagles. He is third in the league in rebounding, pulling down 9.3 caroms per game. Fisher posted double digits in all 28 games and nine double-doubles during the regular season. Fisher was named MAAC Player of the Week six times this season.


Thompson, a 6-foot-11, 250-pound senior forward from Mt. Laurel N.J., is now a two-time All-First Team selection and is currently ranked second in the league in scoring with 20.2 points per game, good for 36
th place on the nation's scoring list. He also leads the MAAC in rebounding (11.8 rpg) and blocks (2.80 bpg). Thompson netted double-digit points in all 30 games and recorded 20 double-doubles this season. Thompson earned six MAAC Player of the Week awards this season.


Hasbrouck, a 6-foot-3, 192-pound junior guard from Capital Heights, Md., ranked in the top 15 of several MAAC categories. He averaged 15.7 points (sixth) per contest for the Saints this season, and led the league in steals with 2.34 a night. He is shooting 39.8 percent from three-point range (11
th) and making 1.69 treys per game (14th). Hasbrouck netted double-digit points in 22 of 29 contests for the Green and Gold.


Ubiles, a 6-foot-6, 197-pound sophomore guard/forward from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., picked up where he left off last season after being named the MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year. During the regular season, he ranked fourth in the MAAC in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per outing. Ubiles is currently first in the MAAC in three-point field goal percentage (45.8 percent), eighth in field goal percentage (53.4 percent) and 15th in free throw percentage (72.2 percent). He had 28 double-digit scoring efforts during the regular season. He earned one MAAC Player of the Week honor this season.


The 2007-2008 All-MAAC Second Team is also a strong unit. The second team is made up of Fairfield junior guard Jonathan Han (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Niagara sophomore guard Tyrone Lewis (Levittown, Pa.), Rider sophomore guard Ryan Thompson (Mt. Laurel, N.J.), Saint Peter's senior forward Todd Sowell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Siena sophomore forward Alex Franklin (Reading, Pa.).


This season’s third unit is a formidable group as well. The third team consists of Loyola senior forward Michael Tuck (Toronto, Ontario), Manhattan sophomore guard Antoine Pearson (Bronx, N.Y.), Marist senior forward/center Ryan Stilphen (Bay Village, Ohio), Niagara senior guard Stanley Hodge (Washington, D.C.) and Rider junior guard Harris Mansell (Cheltenham, Pa.).
