Marist Men, Women Advance to Semifinals

The top seeded Marist men and women advanced to the MAAC Tennis Championship semifinals with victories of Manhattan and Rider, respectively.

The Marist men earned a 6-1 victory over the Jaspers. Manhattan's lone point came in first singles as Mihai Nichifor defeated Loic Sessigesimi (2-6, 6-0, 10-8). Also advancing on the men's side were second seeded Niagara, third seeded Fairfield, and fifth seed Saint Peter's. Niagara advanced past Rider with a 6-1 victory, while Fairfield shut out Loyola 7-0. Saint Peter's slipped past Siena 4-3. The Peacocks picked up the doubles point and victories in third, fourth, and fifth singles to advance.

Marist will face Saint Peter's, while Niagara will take on Fairfield in Saturday's semifinals. Both matches will begin at 9:00 a.m.

On the women's side, the Red Foxes shut out Rider 7-0, while Niagara, Fairfield, and Loyola also advanced. The second seeded Purple Eagles of Niagara ousted Manhattan with a 6-1 victory. The Lady Jaspers' Lindsay Keeler picked up the lone point with a win in first singles. Third seeded Fairfield topped Siena 4-1, as the last two matches were abandoned with the Stags leading both. Loyola, the five seed, shut out Saint Peter's 7-0.

Marist will meet Loyola and Niagara will face Fairfield in the semifinals. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
