Marist Wins Fifth MAAC Men's Tennis Championship

Flushing, NY - The Marist College men's tennis team defeated Fairfield University 7-0 to win the 2008 MAAC Men's Tennis Championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The victory gives the Red Foxes their fifth men's tennis MAAC Championship and first since 2003. Marist sophomore Loic Sessagesimi was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Performer after posting a 5-1 combined record in singles and doubles. In the championship match, Sessagesimi teamed with senior captain Greg Marks in an 8-2 second doubles victory and then defeated Fairfield's Robert Ferrante in second singles (6-2, 6-0).
Marist's Marcus Von Nordheim and Fairfield's George Laffey played the match of the day, a three set thriller that ended in Von Nordheim's favor (4-6, 7-6, 10-4).
Marist will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The matchups will be announced on Tuesday, April 29th.
