Canisius Advances to Championship Game of the 2008 MAAC Softball Championship

Fairfield, Conn. ? Top-seeded Canisius College (37-12) took a 6-1 victory over third-seeded Fairfield University (25-24-1), in game three of the 2008 MAAC Softball Championship at Fairfield’s Alumni Softball Field.
Fairfield started its scoring in the early going as Katie Trifiolis doubled to left field and later stole home to score in the botttom of the first inning.
Canisius pulled ahead, however, in the bottom of the third as Katie Miranto hit a two-RBI double to left center to bring in Angela Turrey and Jenny Maheu to put the Griffs up, 2-1.
The Griffs then took a 5-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning, with Miranto knocking a single to center field to bring in Maheu, and Michelle Fridey hitting a two-RBI single down to center field to allow Lauren Hope and Miranto to reach home plate.
Canisius added one more run to the scoreboard in the seventh, as Maheu scored on Fridey’s single to center field.
Canisius’ Juliette Bowers improved to 19-1 on the season with the win. Fairfield’s Sarah Minice dropped to 15-9 on the season.
Canisius will play the winner of today’s Game 5 on Sunday, May 11, at 12:00 p.m.
