Marist Tabbed as Top Program in 2008 MAAC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll

Edison, N.J. - Marist College, last year's MAAC Regular Season Champion, has been picked to win the 2008 MAAC women's soccer title this season in a preseason poll voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Marist finished with 91 points in the poll, just one point ahead of second-place 2007 MAAC Champion Loyola College (90). Fairfield University was picked third with 88 points, and Niagara University finished in fourth place with 60 points. Siena College placed fifth (59), followed by Manhattan College (56), Iona College (40), Canisius College (30), Rider University (26), and Saint Peter's College (10).
Fairfield's Nicole Cavallaro (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) has been chosen as the 2008 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Cavallaro, the 2007 MAAC Rookie of the Year, led the conference in scoring during the regular season with seven goals and 16 assists for 30 points.
Joining Cavallaro at forward is fellow teammate Casey Frobey (Sandy Hook, Conn.), Loyola's Lea Day (Boulder, Colo.) and Niagara's Stephanie Gartley (Camlachie, Ontario). The midfielders are Fairfield's Ahna Johnson (Hamden, Conn.), Loyola's Lina Staropoli (Raritan, N.J.) and Marist's Katie Zasly (Foster City, Calif.). The backs are anchored by Fairfield's Robyn Decker (Chester, Conn.), Loyola's Sarra Moller (Manalapan, N.J.), and Marist's Maria Baez (Levittown, N.Y.) and Lauren Tillotson (Islip, N.Y.). Loyola's Brittany Henderson (Commack, N.Y.) rounds out the team at the goalkeeper position.
