Riverdale, N.Y. ? Manhattan College shot putter
Milan Jotanovic has been named the Serbian Olympic team’s shot putter in the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing after he threw 19.89 meters at this weekend’s Serbian Cup Competition held in Senta, Serbia.
Jotanovic’s 19.89m mark earned him an Olympic “B” standard, as well as a new Manhattan College school record. The throw also breaks his personal best mark, set at the 2007 NCAA East Regional Championships in Gainesville, Fla.
Jotanovic ? who will be a fifth year senior this fall at Manhattan -- becomes the second Jasper this week to earn a berth on an Olympic team. At this past week’s U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, Manhattan alum Jake Freeman (Manhattan '04) earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic Track and Field team as a hammer thrower with a third place finish in the event. While that earned him a spot on the team, he still needs to throw further during the next few days to meet the Olympic throw standard.
