MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
BURGANDY McCURTY, SIENA
MH, Jr., 5-9, Port Washington, NY/Schreiber
McCurty was named to the Hofstra/Asics Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging 18 kills and posting a .443 attack percentage in Siena’s two matches. The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year had 18 kills and just two errors in the season opener against Big East foe Seton Hall and 18 the next day against the host Pride.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
ALLISON NIETERS, IONA
L, So., 5-9, St. Charles, MO/Lutheran
After being rather untested in the Gaels first two matches against Bucknell and Stony Brook, sophomore libero Allison Nieters recorded 37 digs versus host Central Connecticut State for an incredible average of 7.4 per set. The number was the fourth highest total for the libero that set the school record with 43 in a game last season. For the weekend she anchored Iona’s back row averaging just over five digs per set.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
JANELLE DAVIS, CANISIUS
S, Fr., 5-9, Allentown, PA/William Allen
In her first collegiate games, Davis started at the setter position in all four games for the Golden Griffins, totaling 138 assists for an average of 9.2 assists per set. Davis had her first career double-double with 31 assists and 12 digs in the team’s game against Wofford. Davis also became the first freshman and second setter in program history to record 30 assists in the first four games of the season.
