MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Theresa Ferraina Headlines 2009 All-MAAC Women's Soccer Team

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - Loyola University Maryland graduate student forward Theresa Ferraina has been named the 2009 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year by the league's head coaches and headlines this season's All-MAAC First Team.
Ferraina earned this award after recording six goals and three assists for 15 points this season for the Greyhounds, placing her tied for 10th place on the MAAC scoring chart.
Joining Ferraina with First Team All-MAAC honors is fellow teammate Brittany Henderson, the 2009 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Henderson, a senior goalkeeper for the Greyhounds, owned a league-best 0.81 goals against average during the regular season and led the conference in shutouts with nine to her credit.
Iona College's Gabby D'Aprile and Siena College's Caitlin Cahalan share the 2009 MAAC Rookie of the Year award. D'Aprile, a midfielder for the Gaels, led her team in scoring during her inaugural campaign with four goals and three assists for 11 points. Cahalan, a forward for the Saints, finished tied for fourth place on the MAAC scoring list with nine goals and four assists for 22 points.
In addition to Ferraina and Henderson earning spots on the All-MAAC First Team, Fairfield University's Alyssa Decker, Loyola's Heather Cooke and Manhattan College's Jill Beauchamp claimed a spot at the back position. Midfielders include Canisius College's Kelly Reinwald, Fairfield's Spenser Allaway, Loyola's Lina Staropoli, Manhattan's Courtney McMahon and Niagara University's Chiara Greco. Forwards also include Sylvia Kowalski from Canisius and Jasmin Corniel at Fairfield.
The All-MAAC Second Team includes five backs: Kathleen DiPasquale from Canisius, Adrienne Boyer from Fairfield, Diane Hare from Iona, and Shannon Clancy and Maren Serafine from Siena. At midfield are D'Aprile, Kelly Farrell and Christina Gomez from Loyola, and Cara Riley, Lindsay Tegas and Tabitha Tice from Siena. Forwards are represented by Brooke Bandazian and Jenny Griffin from Canisius, Nicole Cavallaro from Fairfield, Caroline Morse from Manhattan, Jamie Raepple from Niagara, and Ashleigh Barone and Cahalan from Siena. Fairfield's Kelly Boudreau rounds out the Second Team at the goalkeeper position.
Headlining the All-Rookie team are Leah Taylor from Iona, Lauren Norcia from Loyola, Julianne Viviano from Niagara and Lisa Valenziano from Siena at back. The midfielders include Rachel Madasci from Fairfield, D'Aprile, Tessa McClenahan from Loyola, Nikki Kuhar from Marist College and Kaitlin Bondra from Saint Peter's. Loyola's Nichole Schiro, Marist's Jackie Sabia and Cahalan are the forwards, while Manhattan's Kara Davis and Saint Peter's College's Caitlin Hoffer share the goalkeeper duties.
Loyola head coach Katherine Vettori was named the 2009 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year. In her second season at the helm of the Greyhounds, she has led the team to an overall record of 13-4-3, including a 9-0 mark in the MAAC, en route to earning the top seed in the 2009 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship.
