2009 MAAC Volleyball Championship Begins on Sunday

Edison, N.J. - The 2009 MAAC Volleyball Championship begins this Sunday, November 22 with a pair of matches at the Koessler Athletic Center on the campus of Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.
The semifinals begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday as top-seeded Fairfield University (19-11, 16-2 MAAC) will take on fourth-seeded Marist College (17-12, 11-7 MAAC). Second-seeded Niagara University (21-8, 14-4 MAAC) will then face third-seeded Siena College (15-12, 13-5 MAAC) at 4:00 p.m.
On Monday, November 23, the championship game will take place at 7:30 p.m., and will air live on ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network. Fans can also follow the action for all three games via Live Stats as well as the two semifinals on the Live Webcast and Lockport Cable TV.
The winner of the 2009 MAAC Volleyball Championship will earn the league's automatic berth into the 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. The selection announcement will take place on Sunday, November 29 at 3:00 p.m. on ESPNews.
Last year, Siena defeated Fairfield, 3-0, to capture its fourth consecutive MAAC Championship title. In the semifinals, the Saints defeated Canisius, 3-1, while the Stags topped Iona College, 3-1. Siena middle hitter Burgandy McCurty, a two-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, was named the championship's Most Valuable Player.
