Siena's Burgandy McCurty Headlines 2009 All-MAAC Volleyball Team

Edison, NJ - Siena College's Burgandy McCurty has been named the 2009 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year by the league's head coaches and headlines this season's All-MAAC teams.
McCurty, a senior, has now won three straight MAAC Offensive Player of the Year awards. She currently leads the nation in kills per set (5.47) and points per set (6.06). McCurty finished the regular season ranked sixth in the conference in hitting percentage at .291. She was selected as the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week four times this season.
Niagara University sophomore Hannah Hedrick was selected as the 2009 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. She registered 3.50 digs per set, the tenth best mark in the league, and totaled 32 blocks. Hedrick was part of a Niagara defensive unit that finished second in the MAAC in opponent hitting percentage (.174). She was also a weapon offensively, finishing third in the conference in kills per set (4.06).
Niagara sophomore Michelle James was chosen as the 2009 MAAC Setter of the Year after leading the conference in assists per set with 10.77. James was named MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year in 2008.
Iona College junior Allison Nieters earned 2009 MAAC Libero of the Year honors. She was third in the league with 5.13 digs per set. Nieters, who was chosen as the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week twice this year, also won the award last season.
Fairfield University's Brianna Dixion was selected as the MAAC Rookie of the Year. She finished eighth in the league in both kills per set (3.05) and points per set (3.59). Dixion was named the Offensive Player of the Week once and the Rookie of the Week twice in 2009.
The All-MAAC First Team consisted of McCurty, Hedrick, and James, Fairfield's Katie Mann, Loyola University's Nina Camaioni, and Siena's Aubrey Bobo. Canisius College's Samantha Good, Fairfield's Dixion and Lauren Balmert, Iona's Nieters and Sarah Wiener, Marist College's Dawn Jan, Lindsey Schmid, and Alexandra Schultze, and Niagara's Kari Honomichl made up the All-MAAC Second Team.
Niagara head coach Susan Clements was selected as the 2009 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year. Clements, currently in her third season at the helm of the Purple Eagles, engineered a remarkable turnaround, guiding her team to a 14-4 record in the MAAC and an overall mark of 21-8 after going 6-24 (4-14 MAAC) a year ago. Niagara, who finished second in the league, will participate in the four- team MAAC Championship for the first time since 2005.
