Loyola Men and Rider Women Lead After Day Two of the 2009 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships

Baltimore, Md. ? The Loyola College men’s and Rider University women’s swimming and diving teams lead the league after two days of competition at the 2009 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Mangione Aquatic Center at Loyola College.
The Loyola men maintained the lead with 591.50 points, while Rider has registered 483 points for second place. Marist College is in third with 422 points, followed by Iona College (244), Fairfield University (208.50), Niagara University (200), Saint Peter’s College (195), Canisius College (147) and Manhattan College (54).
On the women’s side, the Broncs have tallied 513.50 points, while Marist sits in second place with 486 points. Loyola is in third with 473 points, followed by Fairfield (235), Iona (223.50), Siena College (210), Canisius (130), Niagara (122), Manhattan (90) and Saint Peter’s (70).
Several MAAC records were broken this evening. Rider’s Priscilla Modrov reset her own record in the 400-yard individual medley (4:17.55), while Loyola’s Jacob Drannan claimed the top spot on the men’s side (3:57.79). Fellow Greyhound Ozzy Torres took first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 48.64. Fairfield’s Michelle Yoshida garnered the gold medal in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.56), as did Rider’s Drew Modrov (1:39.09) on the men’s side. Alan Roberts from Marist set a new time in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 55.92. Loyola’s 200-yard medley relay team of Mary Henkels, Kim Krzaczek, Caitlin Cassidy and Lauren Mari set a new MAAC record with a time of 1:45.04, as did their teammates Sam McQuaid, Matt Fralinger, Torres and EJ Verrico in the men’s 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.03. In the 1000-yard freestyle, first place went to Marist’s Jenell Walsh-Thomas (10.16.41) and Rider’s CJ Kohner (9:24.80). Rider’s Kellyanne Tomasula (56.01) and Rider’s Josh Rosenbluth (48.91) earned first-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke. The Broncs’ Modrov, Alicia Fimple, Kori Kraus and Brianna Burns won the 800-yard freestyle relay with a record time of 7:35.59. The Greyhounds’ Drannan, Torres, Patrick Mukri and Brad Reeser set a new pool record in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:45.87.
