Loyola Men and Rider Women Win the 2009 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships

Baltimore, Md. ? The Loyola College men’s and Rider University women’s swimming and diving teams claimed the league titles at the 2009 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Mangione Aquatic Center at Loyola College.

 

The Loyola men won this year’s MAAC crown with a total of 843.50 points, while Rider University registered 762 points for second place.  Marist College came in third with 625 points, followed by Iona College (325), Niagara University (318), Saint Peter’s College (289), Fairfield University (286.50), Canisius College (208) and Manhattan College (72).

 

On the women’s side, Rider earned the conference crown as the Broncs tallied 770.50 points, while Marist finished in second place (764).  Loyola came in third with 727 points, followed by Iona (322.50), Fairfield (321), Siena College (312), Canisius (187), Niagara (182), Manhattan (114) and Saint Peter’s (88).

 

Priscilla Modrov of Rider was named the MAAC Women’s Most Outstanding Swimmer, while younger brother Drew Modrov was named the MAAC Men’s Most Outstanding Swimmer.  The MAAC Men’s Most Outstanding Diver was Ian O’Rourke from Niagara, and the MAAC Women’s Most Outstanding Diver was Amanda Burke of Rider.  Steve Fletcher of Rider was named the Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year, while the Broncs’ Dennis Ceppa was named Diving Coach of the Year
