MAAC Announces 2008-09 Women's Basketball All-Rookie Team

Edison, NJ ? The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announces the 2008-09 Women’s Basketball All-Rookie Team, as selected by the league’s head coaches.
The All-Rookie Team consists of Canisius’ Stephanie MacDonald, Fairfield’s Desiree Pina, Iona’s Kristina Ford, Manhattan’s Alyssa Herrington and Lindsey Loutsenhizer, Marist’s Brandy Gang, Rider’s Sarah Homan, and Saint Peter’s Sakara House. One of these eight players will be named the 2008-09 Rookie of the Year, also selected by the MAAC head coaches. The Rookie of the Year will be announced at the awards reception on Thursday, March 5th at 5:00 p.m at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y., the site of the 2009 Citizens Bank MAAC Basketball Championships.
MacDonald, a 5-10 guard from Ottawa, Ontario, averaged 6.0 points per game and led the Golden Griffins with a 45.1% field goal percentage. She scored a career-high 21 points on November 29th at Binghamton. MacDonald was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week once this season.
Pina, a 5-6 guard from Plainville, Connecticut, was the Stags fourth leading scorer, averaging 8.6 points per contest. She led the team with 1.4 steals per game. Pina was named the league’s Rookie of the Week once.
Ford, a 6-1 forward from Fresh Meadows, N.Y., was the Gaels third leading scorer with 11.0 points per game and second leading rebounder (6.5 rpg). She also finished second in the MAAC with 2.6 steals per game. Ford was named Rookie of the Week five times.
Herrington, a 5-8 guard from Cambridge, N.Y., led the conference with 2.5 three-point field goals made per contest. She was the team’s second leading scorer with 9.9 points per game. Herrington also averaged 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.
Loutsenhizer, a 6-0 forward from North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, was the Jaspers second leading rebounder, grabbing 6.3 per contest. She was also second on the team in field goal percentage (46.1%), while averaging 7.4 points per game. Loutsenhizer was chosen as the Rookie of the Week twice this season.
Gang, a 6-2 forward from Hartville, Ohio, averaged 5.9 points and 3.1 rebounds for the regular season champion Red Foxes. She was second on the team in field goal percentage, connecting on 44.0% of her attempts from the floor. Gang was named the conference’s Rookie of the Week once.
Homan, a 6-3 center from Upper Darby, PA, averaged 4.7 points and 4.6 rebounds while only playing 15.6 minutes per game. She was third on the team with a 43.2% mark from the field. Homan was selected as the Rookie of the Week twice.
House, a 5-7 guard from Springfield, Ohio, was the league’s leader in steals, averaging 3.1 per game. She led the Peahens with 3.0 assists per game and was the team’s second leading scorer, with 8.4 points per contest. House finished the season strong, winning two of the last three Rookie of the Week awards.
