Semifinals Set in MAAC Tennis Championships

Flushing, NY - The top four seeds in the 2009 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship advanced to the semifinals on Friday, while Marist, Saint Peter's and Niagara advanced in the Men's Championship.

Top-seeded Niagara defeated eighth seeded Rider, 7-0, while second seeded Fairfield shutout #7 Saint Peter's. Third seeded Loyola knocked off sixth seeded Manhattan, 6-1, and #4 Marist topped #5 Siena 4-2. Niagara will meet Marist on Saturday, while Fairfield will take on Loyola. Both matches are scheduled for 9:00 a.m.

On the men's side, fifth-seeded Niagara upended fourth-seeded Loyola, 6-1. The Purple Eagles will meet #1 Fairfield, who received a first round bye, in the semifinals. Second-seeded Marist defeated seventh-seeded Rider, 7-0, and #3 Saint Peter's outlasted #6 Siena, 4-3. Marist will face Saint Peter's in the second men's semifinal. Both matches are scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
