Niagara and Fairfield Advance to Women's Tennis Championship Final

Flushing, NY - Top-seeded Niagara and second-seeded Fairfield picked up victories to advance to the 2009 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship Match. The two teams will meet at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Niagara battled to a 6-1 victory over the defending champion Red Foxes. The Purple Eagles won at first through fifth singles and swept the doubles matches. At first singles, Niagara's Hilary Hansen topped Marist's Erin McCarthy 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7-2).
Fairfield won a hard fought match against third-seeded Loyola, 4-3. The Stags, who finished second at the 2008 MAAC Championship, won the doubles point and picked up victories at second, third, and sixth singles to advance to the final.
