Iona Men and Siena Women Lead After First Day of 2009 MAAC Golf Championships

Celebration, Fla.- The Iona College men’s team and the Siena College women’s team lead the way after the first round of the 2009 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships at the Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, Florida.
The Gaels posted a team score of 295 after the first day of the 54-hole tournament, led by Anthony Rubeo finishing with a score of 71. Siena College finished the day in second place with a score of 297. Loyola College came in third place with a score of 300. Fairfield University and Rider University are tied for fourth place (304), Manhattan College is fifth (312), while Canisius College (316), Niagara University (316), and Saint Peter’s College (322) rounded out the field.
The men’s individual leaders are Anthony Rubeo of Iona, Michael Mulieri of Loyola, and James Gifford of Siena, who are tied with a one-under par 71.
For the women, Siena leads with a team score of 344 after round one of the 54-hole tournament. Fairfield completed the first round in second place with a score of 346.
Katelynn Mannix of Siena leads the women’s competition, finishing the first day with an 80.
Competition will resume tomorrow with the men teeing off at 7:30 a.m., and the women teeing off at 8:15 a.m.
