Fairfield Wins 2009 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship

New Rochelle, NY - Fairfield University claimed the 2009 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship with a 19-9 victory over Marist College. The Stags will host the Northeast Conference champion in an NCAA Play-in game on Saturday, May 2nd.
This is Fairfield's second MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship, with the other title coming in 2001.
Fairfield took command of the game from the opening draw, scoring the contest's first seven goals, the first three coming from MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Kristen Coleman. Marist cut the advantage to 8-3, but the Stags responded and carried an 11-5 lead into halftime.
Fairfield's Rebecca White was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after scoring six goals in the championship game.
Fairfield goalkeeper Lauren Chatnik, the 2009 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, made 13 saves in the game, including ten in the second half. Coleman had three goals and four assists for the Stags, while Abbey Goodwin had four goals.
Senior Stephanie Garland led the way for Marist with four goals and an assist.
