Marist College Advances to Championship Game of the 2009 MAAC Baseball Championship

Trenton, N.J. ? Third-seeded Marist College (30-25) advanced to the title game with a 4-3 victory in 11 innings over top-seeded Manhattan College (35-17) in game four of the 2009 MAAC Baseball Championship at Waterfront Park.
Manhattan posted its first run in the bottom of the first inning as sophomore left fielder Mark Onorati scored on a on a single by sophomore third baseman Chad Salem.
The Jaspers added one more run in the fifth inning, with junior right fielder Kevin Nieto scoring off a groundout by Salem.
Marist would tie it up in the top of the sixth, as junior first baseman Ryan Gauck was credited his second home run of the season to plate himself and sophomore catcher Bryce Nugent
The juggernaut was finally broken in the top of the 11th inning when Marist junior shortstop Richard Curylo knocked a two-run homer to the left field wall to put the Red Foxes ahead, 4-2.
The Jaspers responded with sophomore first baseman Austin Sheffield scoring on a single to right field by senior shortstop Ryan Masters, but fell short of adding another run to the board.
Jacob Wiley, the MAAC Relief Pitcher of the Year, was credited with the win (9-1). Manhattan’s Mike Giordano fell to 6-4 on the year.
Marist will play the winner of tonight’s Canisius College/Manhattan game in Game 6 on Saturday, May 23, at 1:00 p.m.
