Manhattan Men, Women Win 2009 MAAC Outdoor Track Championships

Lawrenceville, NJ - The Manhattan College men's and women's track and field teams claimed the 2009 MAAC Outdoor Track Championships. It is the 12th consecutive title for the men's team, while it is the 10th championship in 12 years for the women.
The Jasper men finished with 225 points, followed by both Saint Peter's College and Rider University with 119 points. Marist finished fourth with 77 points and Iona was fifth with 73.
On the women's side, Manhattan collected 215 points, while Rider finished a close second with 207.50 points. Saint Peter's placed third with 107.50 points, followed by Iona (84), Marist (74), and Loyola College (65).
Iona's Jason Weller and Manhattan's Kelton Cumberbatch were named Men's Co-Most Outstanding Performers for Track Events. Weller had first place finishes in the men's 1500 meter (3:56.43) and 5000 meter run (14:46.39). Cumberbatch won the 400 meter hurdles in 55.63 seconds and the 400 meter run in 49.61 seconds.
Manhattan's Albert Johnson III was selected as the Men's Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events. He won the long jump with a leap of 6.91 meters and and the triple jump (14.49 meters). He also won the 200-meters in 22.65 seconds and was on the winning 4x100 meter relay.
Iona's Leonie Smith and Manhattan's Siri Fagerlund were chosen as the Women's Most Outstanding Performers for Track Events. Smith won the 1500 meters in a time of 4:39.48 and finished second in the 5000 meter run (17:37.75). Fagerlund won both the 100 (12.55) and 200 meter (26.21) runs, as well as the 100 meter hurdles (14.77). She was also on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.
Manhattan's Malin Marmbrandt was named the Women's Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events. She won both the long jump (5.48 meters) and the triple jump (11.67 meters).
Manhattan head coach Dan Mecca was named the 2009 MAAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.
