MAAC Announces 2009-10 Women's Basketball All-MAAC Teams

Edison, NJ - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced the 2009-10 Women's Basketball All-MAAC Teams, as selected by the MAAC's head coaches.

The All-MAAC First Team is made up of Fairfield University's Stephanie Geehan, Iona College's Thazina Cook, Loyola University Maryland's Miriam McKenzie, Manhattan College's Michelle Pacheco, and Marist College's Erica Allenspach and Rachele Fitz.  One of these six players will be named the 2009-10 Pepsi Max MAAC Player of the Year, also selected by the league's head coaches.  The Player of the Year will be announced at the awards reception on Thursday, March 4 at 5:00 p.m at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y., the site of the 2010 Citizens Bank MAAC Basketball Championships.

Geehan, a 6-2 senior forward from Braintree, Mass., was first in the MAAC and fourth in the nation in rebounds with 11.6 per game. She also led the league in blocks per game with 3.4, a mark that is currently fifth in the country. Geehan was sixth in the conference, averaging 14.5 points per game. She was named MAAC Player of the Week four times.

Cook, a 5-9 senior from Newark, N.J., finished the regular season ranked in the top-10 in a host of categories. She was fifth in scoring (14.6ppg), seventh in rebounding (7.0rpg) and field-goal percentage (39.3%), and eighth in steals (1.9spg). Cook was named the MAAC Player of the Week once this year.

McKenzie, a 5-10 sophomore from Columbia, Md., had a breakout year as she finished second in the league with 16.6 points per game. She was fifth in the conference with a 41.6 field-goal percentage, sixth in rebounding at 7.7 boards per contest, and seventh in assists per game (2.8). She was chosen as the MAAC Player of the Week on January 4.

Pacheco, a 5-8 senior from Bronx, N.Y., led the league with 5.0 assists per game. She was also ranked in the top-10 in the league with 2.7 steals per game (2nd), 15.3 points per game (4th), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2), a 40.9% field-goal percentage (6th), and a 75.5% free throw percentage (6th). She was selected as the MAAC Player of the Week once this season.

Allenspach, a 5-8 junior from Miamisburg, Ohio, finished the regular season as the conference leader in three-point field goal percentage (43.9%) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). She was also in the top-five in assists (3.6apg), free throw percentage (82.1%), and three-point field goals made (1.9pg). Allenspach averaged 13.6 points per game and was named the MAAC Player of the Week on December 29.

Fitz, a 6-0 senior forward from Seven Hills, Ohio and two-time MAAC Player of the Year, led the conference in scoring (18.0ppg) and field-goal percentage (56.7%). She ended the regular as the fourth-leading rebounder with 8.2 per contest. Fitz also held the second highest free throw percentage (86.8%). She was selected as the MAAC Player of the Week three times during the year.  

This season's All-MAAC Second Team is made up of Canisius College's Brittané Russell, Manhattan's Lindsey Loutsenhizer, Niagara University's Liz Flooks, Marist's Corielle Yarde, and Siena College's Serena Moore.

The All-MAAC Third Team consists of Fairfield's Desiree Pina, Iona's Suzi Fregosi, Anda Ivkovic, and Anna McLean, Rider University's Amanda Sepulveda, and Saint Peter's College's Natasha Morris.
